Date:01.10.2026 - 24.01.2027
Aim of the course:The aim of the programme is to develop learners’ systematic understanding of the environmental impact of buildings and construction products throughout a building’s life cycle, and to provide practical skills for calculating carbon footprints, interpreting the results, and making informed economic decisions.
Target group:Construction and architecture specialists.
Prerequisites:Prior knowledge of construction, ≥ EQF level 5 or equivalent area work experience.
Topics:1. Construction Economics for Decarbonisation
2. Building Carbon Footprint – Theory
3. Digital Tools for Assessing Buildings as Material Banks
4. Product Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
5. Building Carbon Footprint – Reporting
6. Sustainable and Environmental Approaches to Modern Construction and Cost Planning
7. 2-day intensive, in-person consolidation workshop
Study results:1. Explains the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for buildings and construction products and applies relevant international standards (e.g., EN 15978, ISO 14040/44).
2. Calculates and analyses the carbon footprint of a building across different life-cycle stages using appropriate data sources and software tools.
3. Evaluates the environmental impact of construction materials, technologies, and design decisions, and identifies the components with the greatest impact.
4. Integrates environmental objectives into construction process management, including technology selection, resource planning, and waste management.
5. Develops economically justified proposals for reducing building-related emissions and improving long-term sustainability.
