Martynas has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Administration at Vilnius University (VU)
He has been working in Maxima Group from entry level position since 2004. Started in Maxima Lithuania just after finishing university, then worked as commercial and group manager in different FMCG categories in Maxima Lithuania. 3 years’ experience in leading Purchasing department in Maxima Latvia and 5 years managing commerce activities in Maxima Bulgaria. Now leading Purchasing team in Maxima Eesti where main tasks are mostly related to categories development and management, formation of assortment, negotiations with producers and suppliers for purchasing conditions.


Topics:There is a tough competition between food retailers in Estonia. Concentration of food retailers is one of the most intense in EU and still growing. Customers have wide choice for food shopping so all supermarkets are fighting for baskets in each category they present. Different retailers are using different strategies and tactics to gain market share per each category.

Commerce departments are solving following questions daily while executing our assortment strategy:
How to maximize turnover and gross profit from the category?
What is the optimal assortment range, what segments and sub segments have to be presented for customers in each category?
What segments of customers are targeted by each assortment group or sub group?
What are today’s category merchandising principles? Difference between discounters and supermarkets;
Importance of private labels in the category.

During this seminar we will go through main topics of category management and understand what are the main skills and abilities successful category manager requires.
