| Aim of the course: | The course aims to develop learners’ understanding of the principles, technologies, and strategies used in the renovation of residential buildings. It focuses on improving energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and sustainability through effective renovation planning, modern digital tools, and smart building solutions. |
| Target group: | Construction and Real Estate professionals. |
| Prerequisites: | Prior knowledge of construction, ≥ EQF level 5 |
| Topics: | This course provides an overview of the key principles, technologies, and strategies used in the renovation of residential buildings. Participants will explore regulatory requirements, common renovation challenges in existing apartment buildings, and solutions for improving energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and building performance. The course also introduces modern renovation approaches, including building envelope upgrades, HVAC system improvements, digital tools such as BIM and 3D scanning, and the integration of renewable energy and smart building technologies. |
| Study results: | 1. Identify the regulatory and policy frameworks that guide building renovation practices in Latvia and the European Union; 2. Describe common renovation needs, particularly in older apartment buildings, and their impact on energy consumption and indoor environmental quality; 3. Understand thermal performance, energy loss mechanisms, and key renovation strategies; 4. Explain the functions and benefits of building envelope improvements and HVAC system upgrades in enhancing energy efficiency; 5. Demonstrate awareness of digital tools and industrial prefabrication concepts used in modern renovation planning (e.g. BIM, 3D scanning); 6. Describe how solar energy technologies and smart building solutions contribute to achieving renovation objectives. |
