| Aim of the course: | The overall aim of the Dynamic Positioning Simulator course is to provide participants with further insight, experience and confidence in performing offshore operations under Dynamic Positioning control |
| Target group: | Navigators who have successfully completed DP Basic Course and have 60 days documented seagoing familiarisation on a DP capable vessel. Dynamic Positioning operator trainees |
| Prerequisites: | Successfully completed Dynamic Positioning Induction Course (Phase 1) 60 days documented seagoing familiarisation on a DP capable vessel (Phase 2) No more than 5 years between the Dynamic Positioning Simulator Course and the Dynamic Positioning Induction Course |
| Topics: | 1. DP System - Theoretical Review (I) (8 h: Theoretical = 5 h; Practical = 3 h): 1.1. Introduction and Course Objectives 1.2. DP Systems warnings and alarms 1.3. Emergency Procedures 1.4. DP Vessel Operation Manual 1.5. Operational planning 1.6. Worksite approach 1.7. Final setting-up 1.8. DP Trials and FMEA 1.9. DP Incidents 1.10. Consequence analysis. 1.11. DP Operations (7 h: Theoretical = 1 h; Practical = 6 h): 4.1. Risk Assessment 4.2. Simulated Exercise 6: Rock Dumping Operations |
| Study results: | At the end of course, trainee knows:
• Manage the DP system warning and alarms • Deal with DP emergencies and incidents • Explain the consequence analysis • Define a risk assessment • Prepare and execute an operational plan • Elaborate upon a worksite approach • Execute a final setting-up • Explain the development and application of DP trials and FMEA • Set up the DP bridge simulator and execute DPO's actions |
