| Aim of the course: | This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A – VI/4, Table A-VI/4-1. On meeting the minimum standards of competence in medical first aid, a learner will be competent to apply immediate first aid in the event of an accident or illness on board. |
| Target group: | This training course primary is intended for existing seafarers who are going to provide medical first aid on board ship. Refresher course should be undertaken at intervals of five years. |
| Prerequisites: | Course participants should already have been subjected to "Elementary First Aid, IMO Model Course 1.13" |
| Topics: | Knowledge, understanding and proficiency in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.14: First Aid-Revision Care of Casualties Aspects of Nursing Diseases Medical care of Rescued Persons, incl. Distress, Hypothermia and Cold Exposure Keeping of Records Medicines and Medical Equipment Surgical Equipment, Instruments and Supplies Requirements. |
| Study results: | Participants, who have completed the course, will be competent to participate effectively in co-ordinated schemes for medical first aid assistance on ships at sea and to provide the injured with a satisfactory standard of medical first aid while they remain on board. |
| Assessment criteria: | Test ja ülesannete lahendamine: - testi positiivseks sooritamiseks peab vähemalt 75% vastustest olema õiged, - lisaks hinnatakse situatsioonülesannete lahendamist (praktiline osa), Kriteeriumid õppe ajal: - õppur osaleb õppetöös 100%, - teadmiste omandamist hinnatakse ja kontrollitakse aruteludes ja praktiliste tegevuste kaudu. |
