| Aim of the course: | The aim of the course is to introduce the development trends of modern power electronics, to give an overview of the basic circuits and operating principles of power semiconductor converters worked with renewable energy sources. At the same time, the course teaches the basics of the design of power circuits using the modern semiconductor devices and helps learners in understanding the problems of sustainable energy supply for sustainable society deveopment. |
| Target group: | The course is intended for electrical engineers and anyone interested in energy. |
| Prerequisites: | Knowledge of physics, electrical engineering. |
| Topics: | Chapter 1. Rectifiers: The main characteristics of rectifiers; Single-phase half-cycle rectifiers; Single phase full period rectifiers; Single phase bridge rectifiers; Three-phase full period rectifiers; Three - phase bridge rectifiers Chapter 2. Inverters: Characteristics of inverters; Voltage converters; Current transformers; Resonant inverters; Chapter 3. AC Converters: AC Voltage Regulators; Direct frequency converters; Frequency converters with direct current circuit Chapter 4. DC Converters: DC Voltage Regulators; Voltage reducing pulse width converters; Voltage boosting pulse width converters; Universal pulse width converters. |
| Study results: | After completing the course, the student: • knows the basic principles of energy conversion; • familiarises with the topologies of modern power semiconductor converters and their applications; • can model and simulate power electronics converters with a software package on a computer; • understands converter protection schemes, cooling methods, converter reliability and diagnostics. |
| Assessment criteria: | Arvestus tuleb sooritada vähemalt 51%. Ja vähemalt 70% kontakttundides osalemine. |
| Comments: | Kursus toimub, kui osalejaid on vähemalt 20. |
