Decarbonization and Digitalization in Maritime Transport

Aim of the course:The training is designed for PhD students and early-stage researchers seeking to expand their knowledge on current challenges and solutions in shipping decarbonization, regulatory frameworks, and digital innovation.
Target group:The course is intended for: Doctoral students and young researchers in maritime studies.
Prerequisites:Basic knowledge of maritime operations and environmental regulations is recommended.
Topics:The course consists of the following main components:
Decarbonization strategies for maritime transport (IMO frameworks, operational actions to decrease GHG emissions, operational improvements).
Digital tools and models for emission mapping and fuel efficiency.
Role of ports and port sustainability in the green transition.
Fuel alternatives including wind-assisted and future fuels.
Workshops on research management, regulatory structures, and Thesis work.
Excursions and networking activities with industry experts.
Study results:Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand key regulatory and operational frameworks for decarbonization in maritime transport.
Analyze the impact of EU CO₂ taxation policies on shipping.
Explore digital technologies and their application in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the shipping sector.
Critically assess fuel alternatives and port sustainability practices.
Engage in collaborative discussion and research dissemination in maritime innovation topics.
