Aim of the course: | The focus of the course is on the practical application of knowledge via team work using case studies and exercises |
Target group: | Deck officers of Coast Guard units, passenger and merchant vessels. OSC course is not only for Coast Guard units, all other units possibly participating in the SAR operation (volunteers, Masters of commercial vessels etc.) will benefit from it. |
Prerequisites: | We expect students to be familiar with IAMSAR manual before attending the course. |
Topics: | Level 4 (short-term topics basic level training) The course is built up on case-studies, practical an simulator exercises, discussion and group work. The course is based on IMO model course 3.15 SAR On-Scene Coordinator 2014 Edition. Topics covered: Legislation, communication, SAR mission responsibilities and tasks, search planning and more. |
Study results: | After course participants will know how to implement IAMSAR guidelines, there will be a common understanding of standards, methods and language used in SAR between neighboring countries. This course will give participants the right to act as OSC in SAR cases. |
